HIGHLAND PONY NEWS 2021

News Update AUGUST

Since January update we have had three foals born here at Pitmenzie.  Pictures of them can be seen on the  Foal 2021 page.
Rosanna had a lovely strong colt foal to Eros on 15th May then a week after, Fionnalaigh  foaled a strong filly foal again to Eros.
Both growing well and being handled whenever possible.

On 22nd July a welcome colt foal was born to Selkie x Rannoch.
This was a much longed for foal and he is very easy on the eye.

I am hoping all three mares are in foal again for the 2022 season.

Jasmine now a 4 year old was sent away to stud at Chapelhill Highland Ponies to their stallion Chapelhill Earl and hopefully is in foal to him for 2022.  So...all very exciting and something to get us through the long winter.

SAD NEWS.

Sadly I had to make the sad decision to let Tarka go on 23rd June.
His weary old hind legs just couldn't work hard enough to enable him to get up without difficulty.

He has left behind him a legacy of traditional Highland Ponies with good bone hair and feather.  An end of an era as there will be very few Orangefield ponies left but he was a credit to his breeder Bert MacRae MRCVS whom we bought him from as a youngster.

At the stud we have his son Rannoch of Achnacarry our stud stallion and also his other son..Euan who is my riding pony.  He also leaves Rosanna his daughter and Maisie his grand-daughter therefore ensuring his line will be carried on,
He is sadly missed by us all especially Midge of Achnacarry who was his long term companion.

NEWS UPDATE FOR January.

Welcome to news of Achnacarry Stud 2021. 30th January.

Well........unfortunately Covid is still here with us all and life is very different from two years ago.
However in 2020 we had three foals born,....a filly and two colts.
I can now report that the two Colt foals have found new homes.
Magnus is now with Lauren Bryce who also has Aigas of Achnacarry so very much
a family affair.

Captain Sir Tom has also found a new home with Kirstin Tigg in South Wales.  She already has a Highland Pony bred by Ellie Douglas of Kirkcarrion Stud and Tom is a welcome addition to keep her niece amused..  He will leave sometime in February.

Sergeant Major has also found a new loving home near Skipton in Yorkshire with Nicole Armstrong and once again yet another new owner in love with Highland Ponies.

Lastly Siusaidh  left here in the early part of January for her new home with Sandra Mackenzie on the Island of Lewis.  Siusaidh has done me very well having bred some beautiful foals.
Jamie..is in Germany with Katrin Magel as her stud stallion and produced a beautiful filly foal for her in 2020.
Jura a handsome yellow dun gelding is with Susan Hyde in Perthshire.
i have two of her daughters.Jasmine and Julie so it made sense to let her go and give pleasure to someone else and I wish Sandra all the best with her.
